Art Deco style

The expression, art deco, is the short form of the French expression, art decoratif, and it was on it’s peak in the 1920’, representing the style in design of buildings. From France it went to America, where it flourished. The style can be described by straight lines, carefully designed geometrical construction, and soon become the symbol of luxury and elegance. The young generation of the time immediately fall in love with the new style, and become more than satisfied with the well designed forms using the new materials of that age, the polished shining chrome and plastic, that was supporting the style and giving an extra spark. As for the clothing industry, straight cut and shorter dresses were in, showing more skin. Women had their hair cut short- that was the bob. Of course accessories and shoes style had also changed.
